Eating vegan may improve health, but it’s also challenging. Eating enough protein and healthy fat is issues vegans must face. Pecans are an excellent source of both protein and healthy fats. They make a terrific snack. They’re nutritious and do not have any gluten.

What Nutrients are in Pecans

A 1 oz. serving of pecans, about 19 halves of the nut, supplies 5% of the daily needed protein by an average adult. The same amount delivers 27% of the RDA for unsaturated fats, including Omega-3. Pecans also contain such minerals as potassium, zinc, calcium and magnesium. You get Vitamin A, Vitamin C and the B-complex vitamins.

Pecans contain the antioxidant beta-sitosterol. Beta-sitosterol lowers low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad”) cholesterol. Pecans also add gamma-tocopherol to your diet. That’s a form of Vitamin E, which protects LDL from oxidation by free radicals.

Vegans often face a unique challenge. They need to add protein to their diets without eating
